Antique Carved Mangle Board & Roller — Dated 1893, Complete Set

The set is complete—the board and its matching roller. The board is flat and paddle-shaped, tapering to a rounded tip, with a single carved motif above the
Date: a stemmed leaf sprig, cut in simple V-grooves. The date is incised by hand—the numerals are
unevenly spaced, which is how you can tell it was carved rather than stamped. There are no initials
and no borders; the decoration is one leaf and one date, and that restraint is part of its character.

A separate round wooden dowel passes through a mortised slot near the head, so it pivots freely. A
small carved latch sits beside it, with a cord loop for hanging when it isn’t in use.

The wood has an even honey-brown patina, with edges and tip softened by decades of handling.

Condition, plainly: a longitudinal crack runs down the body near the handle mortise — the
usual stress point on a piece like this, and it’s stable rather than spreading. Minor nicks to the
edges, no losses of material. Honest age wear throughout; nothing hidden.
